10 Good Things to Talk About

Inspired by a post on The Wejr Board here are 10 Good Things to talk about with your child or with each other.

1. Bonspiel – The first group of students has finished their 3 curling lessons.  The students have spend the past 3 Fridays on the ice and having an hour in the public library.  The next group of students will start curling next Friday.

2. Empire Project  – A new Social Studies project was introduced this week.  Students are expected to complete one task by December 9th.

3. Canned Food Drive – Continues to collect food for Share Food Bank.  There is a fairy-ly exciting reward if the school collect more that 1000 cans.

4. Explorations – Students started the second term of explorations.  Students rotated from Dramus –> Tech Ed –> Home Ec –> Art.

5.  Student Teacher – Mrs. Simcox has finished her semester work with us and will return in January.  She has been teaching a lesson a week.

6. Classics – This week we have started an online literature circle on edmodo.  We are reading the classics – students are expected to write a response to their novel once a week.  Students don’t need to finish the book to write their responses, but do need to write once a week.

7. Passion Projects – Students have time every Friday to explore a topic of their own interest.  Projects to watch:  Aidan’s Recording Studio, Lyle’s Writing Blog, Aishah’s Music Blog, Connor’s Hockey Blog, Liam’s Blog.  I’ve heard about photography projects, cooking and recipe projects  and novel writing projects… stay tuned for more information.

8. Wind, Rain, Snow and Sleet – and the school stayed open.  Students have many options at lunch during the bad weather: they often have open gym, they can go outside, they can go into the games room, they can eat and be in the cafeteria.  What’s your favourite rainy fall/winter lunch time activity?

9. Sustainability – Proposals are in and included school compost, wood chipper for waste wood from tech ed, Eco-Club, gardening, Bear Aware programs, Walk to School initiative, more recycling, Litter-Less Lunch, Waste Audits, Energy Audits.  Are you interested in following through on your proposals?

10. Evergreen Culture Centre Workshop– 30 MACC students will have the chance to go to a workshop on Monday. Greg Simpson has been a fixture of the Vancouver art scene since the 1960s. He  combines surrealism and abstraction to create a fusion of figure and landscape which arises directly from the visceral process of mark making and automatism. The exhibition features large-scale paintings from his recent body of work. In the Studio – Students will explore abstract painting along with pattern and surrealist techniques such as ‘automatic’ painting and drawing to explore and expose their imaginations and
inner thoughts.
